I tried for 5 years to get hummers at my house (I saw one in a neighbor’s garden). Finally I planted a lonicera semperviren vine and have had hummers ever since. This is not an invasive vine and is evergreen here in Columbus, OH. I have planted three of these vines and the hummers will often go to the vine flowers before coming to the feeders. If you plant one of these vines, be sure to provide some type of trellis for support.

I have tons of birds, blue jays finch you name it, except hummers . I have feeders but have only ever seen 2 and I think it was migrating time. I have recently planted my yard for a bird paradise with lots of pollinators flowers. Should I still put up my feeder for migration or just wait until spring when they come back???

Any suggestions? My feeder is red and I use the 1/4 recipe for food!

On the other corner of the porch I have a small bird house. House sparrow’s use the home but the hummers won’t use the feeder. Do I need to move them so it’s only one or the other on the front porch?

please use pure cane sugar, not beet sugar since it is treated with chemicals in the field

Richard, I’d LOVE to see some videos of your hummers. Please feel free to share some on our Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/BackyardGardenLover/

I hang 6 feeders and refill about once a week. Container color makes no difference. No coloring in the food. Have around 30-40 in the spring and throughout the summer.
Yes, they can get very aggressive, but the show is worth it.
